New mazda cars 2010
Ford Fiesta/Mazda 2: While these two subcompacts share Ford’s DE platform architecture, there are enough subtle differences in styling, trim and tuning to make them appeal to slightly different markets. You can’t go wrong with either. They both blend style, efficiency and driving dynamics in a way not seen since first generation VW Golfs and the Mazda GLC. The Mazda 2 was named “World Car of the Year” in 2008 for good reason. Both cars raise the bar for the segment.
New Cars On the Horizon for 2010
If 2009 was a year of uncertainty, manufacturers’ products certainly didn’t show it. Buyers were able to choose from two new class-leading hybrids, a couple of new pony cars and several other creative designs that all pushed the boundaries of their respective segments. Despite the economic downturn with accompanied scrambling for solvency, the trend toward smarter, efficient cars took root and stood firm.
The list below includes exciting new products scheduled for production during calendar year 2010. From the buyer’s perspective many will be worth the wait as they represent new thinking and technology that are expected to carry manufacturers through the industry’s transition to Electric Vehicles (EV) as well as new form factors that suit today’s economy and lifestyle. If 2009’s LA Auto Show is any indication of what to expect in 2010, the trend toward efficiency and driver involvement will continue. And in some cases manufacturers are counting on strong sales to justify new partnerships and changes to old-school business practices. Even more than 2009, 2010 will focus on product first and provide consumers with several choices worth waiting for.

2011 Infiniti M56x
Infiniti’s new M-series luxury sports sedan has the brains and the brawn to compete with Bavarian and German luxury car manufacturers. Under the spotlight Infiniti has used its M56x as a showcase to illustrate how technology should be put to use in everyday life; abundant and ever-present, but imperceptible and noninvasive. The M56x offers power, luxury, and technology in ways that you didn’t know you needed, but once you experience them, you won’t want to live without them.
I’ll jump at the chance to drive anything with big horsepower. In this case, it was a 420 hp luxury sedan. I had envisioned being rewarded with wheel spin upon mashing the gas pedal, yet gritting my teeth under braking and cornering. Upon taking delivery of the test car and seeing its size and heft first-hand, I was sure my initial impression was justified as I thought to myself, “all-aboard the USS X56m!” At about 4,200 pounds, I figured the acceleration would be brisk, but it would drive like a boat. I was so wrong.
The driver’s cockpit is so adjustable, everyone is sure to get that perfect “fits-like-a-glove” feel. The first thing you’ll notice is that the seats are soft, yet firm and supportive and well-bolstered. The leather seats are perforated and the front seats are both heated and cooled and work in conjunction with the climate controls to keep your body at its preferred temperature.
The driver’s 10-way power seat will get you into the perfect position. Once you are there, you can use the power tilt/telescoping wheel and power telescoping pedals to bring all the controls to your effortless reach.
Much of the interior and climate technology is built into the multi-function display. Take the time to set things up once and the dash-mounted buttons will simply do whatever you want.
Now what if your significant other adjusts all these preferences to their liking? Don’t worry. Just use your own wireless key fob and the M will know who’s in the driver’s seat and adjust settings accordingly – including radio presents and other functions.
The redeeming quality here is that if you are driving through the hills in a spirited fashion, you can put the transmission in sport mode and after a minute of spirited driving, the car will catch on that you are trying to have fun and will begin to hold a gear for quite a while without upshifting since it knows you have sportng intentions. This doesn’t mean the car is not fast from a standstill, it just doesn’t feel particularly fast. It wants to shift out of first gear ASAP.
Even Sport mode did not allow it to hold first gear for very long unless you bury the throttle and keep it there. It also never downshifts into first gear if the car is moving – even at a very slow speed. Second gear is all you get unless you go into manual mode. But manual mode gives you some very laggard shifts. Even with all of this computer nanny stuff, you can still just mash the gas and watch the other cars disappear effortlessly behind you. The 7-speed transmission helps keep you in the power-band at whatever speed you demand.

Hyundai to launch Verna Transform in India
Hyundai is soon going to launch a facelifted version of the existing drab looking Verna in the next two days, that’s 23rd of June. The new car, although mechanically unaltered, will feature cosmetic upgrades and more features inside the cabin. Christened Verna Transform, the car was launched in South Korea a few months back, and will try and bump up the sales for Hyundai with its launch in the Indian market.
The new car, in an attempt to achieve turnaround for its sedately selling sibling, will sport new swept back and elongated headlpams, new grille, new tail-lamps, new bumpers (both front and rear) and most likely a pair of exhaust pipes. We think that the price of the face-lifted car will largely be unchanged.
In the Transform version of the car offered in Korea, the centre console has been upgraded for a more modern look, and the music system is compatible with USB / Aux inputs. The new system will also have Bluetooth connectivity. The backlight of the instrument cluster will change from green to blue. Apparently the fuel efficiency will go slightly up as well, owing to some fine tuning to the engine.
Currently there aren’t many alternatives to the diesel powered Swift Dzire which offeres exceptional value. The Verna Transform can really challenge Maruti’s dominance in the segment by offering freshened up looks. The only thing that can possibly stop the car from achieving the feat is it’s engine which works on the philosophy of ‘double or nothing’ wherein there hardly is any power on tap below 2000rpm, after which all hell breaks loose – creating driveability issues within the city. We hope Hyundai have addressed the issue in the new car with a bit of fine tuning of the turbo. Ogle on the pictures as we get on to the job of digging out some more details for you.

Tata Nano may cost more
We told you a few days back that the Nano is going to be available directly off the shelf without the need for a prior booking. However, the car may not cost the same anymore. This is because Tata Motors seems to be contemplating a price hike for the Nano. If incorporated, the hike will range between Rs. 5000 to Rs. 15,000 depending on the variant. This comes in as no surprise, since Tata, during the launch of the Nano, had hinted towards a probable price hike once they deliver the initial one lakh orders. With the deliveries of these bookings likely to be completed by July end, the Nano may boast of a higher sticker price in order to increase the earnings for the component manufacturers.
The Nano was undoubtedly a challenge for the OE industry which the succeeded in achieving but it barely gives them any margins. As Tata puts it, ‘though the vehicle manufacturer manages its cash flow well, its the supply chain that takes a big hit’. Also add to this the fact that the raw material prices have gone up yet again, forcing most carmakers to hike their pricetags for the fourth time this year! In fact, Maruti Suzuki, Ford Motor India, Toyota Kirloskar and Mahindra & Mahindra are all set to announce a price hike for their vehicles in the coming week.
So you see, the common man’s vegetables like onions and potatoes are not the only ones going through a price hike, its the common man’s car that will face the brunt too. Probably Tata should indeed chop off the Nano’s roof to save metal costs and launch a cheap convertible version of the Nano.
